What was the shoot?
Headshots with author Philip Whiteley, Margate, Kent.
So this is how the shoot went. I got the lighting in place, we would talk about cricket whilst I got a few shots. Change of lighting and angle, we would talk about cricket whilst I got a few shots. Change of lighting and angle, we would talk about cricket whilst I got a few shots.... Rinse and repeat. For me, so much of a portrait shoot is about having the client relaxed so this format worked really well throughout.
Whilst in The Sands Hotel, I used one continuous light at different angles with the rest of the light coming from a large window. We also took a stroll down to the Pilgrims Hospice Bookshop for the second half of the shoot where one light, a step ladder and bookcases were used to get the photos. Myself and Phil had just enough time to get outside for a few natural light photos too.Thank you Margate steps!
To look at the photo below, you wouldn't have thought it would taken much work but....*takes deep breath and speaking really fast*.... we changed the lighting numerous times to make it more natural, changed the angle of shooting (I was on a foot stool) to ensure the bookcase details didn't interfere with the photo and even moved books around that were distracting!!!! Was all of it worth it? You betcha!
