It was that time again. When world class authors and the local community came together for the love of all things books. Yup, that's right, it's the Margate Spring Bookie 2018.
Similar to the past festivals, there was something for everyone. Dosh Archer (@dosharcher) Sam Gayton (@sam_gayton) and Tamara Rattigan(@tamararattigan) were entertaining the children whilst literary giants such as Louis de Bernières were wowing the adults. There was even readings and live music from Phil Whiteley (@felipewh) to a packed pub!
Another highlight and an absolute privilige to shoot was the poetry slam at The Dugout. First up on stage, were young people who had taken part in The Margate Bookie creative writing course. All of them delivered their poems expertly and the crowd rightly showed their appreciation with huge applause. The atmosphere was amazing. Kicking off the evening was Margate's own Salena Godden (@salenagodden). This was the 2nd time I had seen her perform with a camera in my hand and once again, she had the audience in the palm of her hand hanging off every word. A master class.
Anybody who attends The Margate Bookie leaves with a warm glow. And why wouldn't you? World-class authors, an amazing venue and a stones throw away from the sea- what could be better? A special mention to the whole team of volunteers- that made the event run smoothly, Gemma (@gemmapettmanpr) for her PR brilliance and the main man Andreas Loizou who's idea of bringing literature to Margate is rapidly turning into something very special indeed!
